Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

In anticipation of the new Axel F movie premiere on Netflix, we're revisiting the original Beverly Hills Cop movie from 1984. After watching the movie, we engaged in a lively conversation covering topics relating to the film such as the comedic genius of Eddie Murphy, 80s pop culture, and more. We hope you enjoy revisiting this 1984 box office hit as we share some thoughts and plenty of laughter... but we're not falling for the old Banana in the Tailpipe!

Here's what's on the menu, along with our recipes. Enjoy!

Coffee Marinated Chicken

8 chicken breasts (about 4 pounds)

1/2 cup strong coffee, chilled

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup olive oil

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

2 Tbsp. soy sauce

2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard

2 tsp. garlic powder

2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. pepper

Whisk together ingredients (except chicken.)

Place chicken in a large container or plastic baggie, and pour marinade over chicken.

Chill in fridge for at least an hour, preferable overnight for maximum flavor.

Grill until chicken is cooked through and allow to rest before serving.

Murphy Potatoes

1 1/2 pounds boiling potatoes

2 Tbsp. butter, melted

4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 cup Gouda cheese, shredded

salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and grease a baking pan. Cook potatoes in salted boiling water for about 15 minutes, or until tender. Drain and allow to cool to touch. Cut potatoes into wedges and place, skin side down, into the prepared baking pan and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pour cream over potatoes, followed by grated cheese and crumbled bacon. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cream has thickened and cheese is melted.

Beverly Hills Chopped Salad

1 head Romaine lettuce, washed and chopped

1 ripe avocado, diced

1/2 cup grape tomatoes, halved

1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, cubed

Dressing:

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

3 Tbsp. rice vinegar

1 Tbsp. honey

1 tsp. Dijon mustard (Grey Poupon)

1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed

salt and pepper to taste

"Banana in the tailpipe" Pudding

8 ounce cream cheese, softened

1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk

1 pkg (5 oz.) instant vanilla pudding mix

3 cups milk (2% or higher)

2 tsp. vanilla extract

8 oz. tub Cool Whip, thawed

2 boxes vanilla wafers (we use gluten free)

5-7 bananas, peeled and sliced

In a large bowl, beat cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth.

Add in sweetened condensed milk, pudding mix, milk, and vanilla. Mix until combined.

Stir in half of the whipped topping, reserving the rest for later.

To layer: Place 1/2 of the vanilla wafers in a layer on the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish.

Add a single layer of sliced bananas. Then pour about half of the pudding mixture on top.

Continue with another layer of each, and top with remaining Cool Whip.
